Westside Health Authority’s Youth Council, which focuses on community organizing and civic engagement, planned a public speaking training session for mentees in our program. In doing so, mentors hoped the experience would help our future leaders become more comfortable and confident in voicing their ideas and needs.
The mentees were prompted to write a brief essay about their thoughts on an issue concerning them. After creating their drafts, each participant shared their topics and the mentors and ambassadors sitting on the Youth Council at that time provided constructive criticism on everyone’s performance.
More skills-building exercises are underway for WHA’s youth, and we’re excited to share their growth with you here. If you’re proud of the work they accomplished, be sure to share on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere 🙂
